Agents prepare. You decide.

TaxTerminal is a workbench for Australian registered tax agents and BAS agents. AI agents collect, chase, read, reconcile, classify, prepare and cross-check. A licensed human reviews the exceptions and signs off.

$ brief J. Citizen FY2027 Individual ITR
ok 312 lines read from 14 documents, every page, every line
ok salary, PAYG withheld, interest, dividends tied to ATO prefill
ok 34 of 40 cross-checks pass, evidence attached
!! rental interest claimed differs from the loan statement by $412.18
!! 2 repair lines look like capital improvements
!! work-related expenses over $300 without receipts (3 lines)
-> 3 items need your review. Everything else is green.

The problem

About 70% of billable hours in a tax practice go on reading, matching, chasing and typing. TaxTerminal moves that work to agents and leaves judgement, advice, the client relationship and signing with the registered agent.

~70%of billable hours are reading, matching, chasing and typing
2.5h to 30mtarget: from about 2.5 hours to about 30 minutes of review per individual return
100%full-population checking instead of sampling
40versioned, dated cross-checks on every return

What the agents do

Each agent is a discrete service with inputs, outputs, a confidence score and a trace. Code calculates; models only propose where code cannot.

Reader

Reads bank statements, income statements, dividend and rental statements, loan statements, receipts and ATO prefill in PDF, photo, CSV or spreadsheet. Every line, with the page and line it came from.

Chaser

Keeps a checklist per client and chases over email, WhatsApp and SMS. Stops the moment an item arrives, never asks twice, and hands over to the preparer after a set number of attempts.

Reconciler

Ties every figure to its source document and to the ATO prefill, by payer. Lists what does not tie, and why.

Classifier

Assigns each transaction to a tax label using ATO rules, the practice's own treatment and the client's prior years. Records the reason for every label.

Preparer

Assembles the return from classified data. Every figure links to the documents and rules that produced it.

Cross-checker

Runs 40 versioned consistency checks across the return, prior years, related entities and prefill: rental interest, dividends, depreciation continuity, Div 7A exposure and more.

Reviewer's brief

The output is an exception list, not a draft return: the items a licensed human needs to look at, and why. Everything else is green with its evidence attached.

Trace and retention

Every number traces to document, page, line, rule id and decision, exported as a workpaper pack. Retained for 5 years and locked after sign-off.

The workflow

Every engagement moves through seven steps on one board.

  1. CollectChecklist generated, secure upload link sent
  2. ChaseEmail, WhatsApp and SMS until complete
  3. ReadDocuments read, reconciled and classified as they land
  4. PrepareReturn assembled, cross-checks run, brief generated
  5. ReviewA licensed human works the exception list
  6. ApproveAgent signs off, client signs the declaration, fee gate clears
  7. RetainWorkpaper pack archived and locked

Lodgement goes through your existing lodgement software: TaxTerminal exports the lodgement-ready return to Xero Tax, MYOB Practice, HandiSoft, Reckon APS or CCH iFirm and records the receipt you enter. Direct lodgement follows ATO Digital Service Provider accreditation.

Data and responsibility

Documents and data are stored in Australia (Cloudflare Oceania region). AI model calls may be processed outside Australia; customer data is never used to train models.

A registered agent reviews and signs off every engagement. TaxTerminal prepares, checks and flags; the registered agent remains responsible under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009.
